Top 10 New Whiskey of 2008Malt Advocate Magazine

NOSE: Cinnamon stick, clove, vanilla, peppermint, and burned sugar is freshened up with crisp green apple.

PALATE: The first sip is intense with rye spice, volumes of vanilla, some barrel char, and an extremely rich and viscous mouth feel – quite oily and coating.

FINISH: The finish takes hold with huge rye spice, cinnamon, mint, and vanilla and it lingers for ages. Outstanding finish to this whiskey.

COMMENTS: Great neat, with a little water, or on the rocks. The high rye mash bill also makes Rendezvous® Rye perfect in one of the classic cocktails made with rye, like a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, or a Sazarac.

the story

Rendezvous® Rye celebrates the first gathering of American frontiersmen out West... in Utah. From 1825 - 1840 the "rendezvous" was the annual summer gathering of mountain men to exchange pelts, weapons and supplies. Alcohol was not one of the "supplies" at the first rendezvous. This oversight was quickly corrected with a generous supply of whiskey at the second rendezvous in Utah's Cache Valley, resulting in a successful event and tradition for all subsequent rendezvous.

Rendezvous Rye is a marriage of two exotic straight rye whiskies - one old and one new. The whiskey is made by marrying together the rich and aromatic flavours of sixteen year-old rye whiskey (made from a mash of 80% rye, 10% corn and 10% malted barley) with the bold and spicy flavours of six year-old rye whiskey (made from a mash of 95% rye and 5% malted barley).

"I'm a whiskey guy." says David Perkins, High West's founder who was named Whiskey Advocate's Whiskey Pioneer of the Year in 2011. "I wanted High West to be a Western brand. A Rocky Mountain brand. That was important to me."

Utah’s first distillery since the 1870’s, High West Distillery and Saloon offers a truly unique experience as the world’s only ski-in distillery and gastro-saloon. We are located at exactly 7000 feet in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in Old Town Park City, Utah.

Founded by prospectors in the late 1860’s, Park City became one of the richest silver mining towns in the West, and the best watering hole in Utah. Our aim is for the High West Distillery and Saloon to contribute to that reputation. We invite you to share in our passion for great spirits, and our love for the American West.

High West Distillery and Saloon started with one man’s passion to make a great Rocky Mountain Whiskey. Proprietor and distiller David Perkins married his background as a biochemist, his love of bourbon and cooking, and his passion for the American West to bring the craft of small-batch distilling back to Utah, of all places.

"We wanted to call High West a "saloon,'" says David Perkins, High West's founder, "because we wanted to pay homage to the history of saloons in the old West and the important role they played in each and every town that had one. The saloon was the main meeting place where town hall was held, important announcements were made, and people went to eat and drink. We want people to share that sense of community and friendship over High West."
