90 Points – The Tasting Panel, 2015
COLOUR: Dark purple.
NOSE: Earthy mushroom and sweet leather aromatics that take a turn to sweet plum and dark blackberry fruit with hints of Herbs De Provence and toasted cedar.
PALATE: Rich and wonderful depth showcasing flavours of black currants, molasses, tart black cherry, plum sauce, and hints of preserved orange rind, toasted dill, and blackened marshmallow.
COMMENTS: This wine would pair very well with ribs in a sticky BBQ sauce over brown rice and mixed mushroom stir fry, anything Italian with sausage, or a meaty grilled burger topped with sautéed onions and bacon on a soft roll alongside sweet potato fries.
WINEMAKER NOTES: 2012 Hey Mambo red blend brings wonderful rich colour and a layered decadent wine to your table. You can see elements of cool climate Merlot, from Clarksburg, in the rich tannins and blue fruit notes. And the warm climate Merlot, from Paso Robles, shows nuances of black fruit with round, soft tannins. The balance of this blend is Lodi Zinfandel and Petite Sirah which add pure fruit and jammy notes. Syrah from Paso Robles adds peppery notes and black raspberry fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon from Clarksburg adds some dark elements and some grip on the finish. A pinch of Lake County Petit Verdot and El Dorado Foothills Tannat adds some great colour as you whirl your glass.
