89 points - subtle aromas of cedar wood, incense and a hint of leather intermixed with the crunchy red and black fruit while the palate displays more dusty-tannins with a pungent sapid sensation that I associate with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is very good value.

"The 2012 Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Lujan de Cuyo shows much more restraint than the Malbec, with subtle aromas of cedar wood, incense and a hint of leather intermixed with the crunchy red and black fruit while the palate displays more dusty-tannins with a pungent sapid sensation that I associate with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is very good value. Drink now-2016."

"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is from 30-year-old vines in Perdriel that was aged in 60% French oak over 12 months. It has a lovely tobacco and hot gravel-scented bouquet with blackberries and bilberry fruit. The palate is very “classic” in style, with silky smooth tannins, crisp blackberries laced with pain grille and a dash of white pepper. The oak is well-integrated on the finish, which lingers long in the mouth. Perhaps it is a little rustic compared to its peers, but this is full of personality. Drink now-2018."

TASTING NOTES

COLOUR: Intense red colour.

NOSE: Very good concentration on the nose, reminding aromas of dark fruits like blackberries and cassis.

PALATE: Juicy and fruity on the palate, with hints of coffee and leather given by the oak.

FINISH:  Full bodied, silky tannins and long finish.

COMMENTS: Great combined with meats and strong cheeses.

WINERY

Hervé Joyaux Fabre, owner and director of Fabre Montmayou, was born in Bordeaux, France, to a family of wine négociants. When he arrived in Argentina in the early 90’s looking for opportunities to invest in vineyards and start a winery, he was impressed by the potential for Malbec in Mendoza.

As a true visionary, he bought very old Malbec vineyards, planted in 1908, and built the Fabre Montmayou winery in the purest Chateau Style from Bordeaux. His passion and “savoir faire” did the rest, enabling him to begin producing exceptional wines that have achieved international acclaim and are enjoyed in over twenty countries.

With constant care and personal style – essential elements for great quality – Fabre Montmayou combines modern winemaking, Mendoza’s terroir and the Bordeaux “savoir faire” to produce wines of unique personality, farmed using traditional methods and without herbicides in order to obtain the best grapes while respecting the environment.
