ACCOLADES

84 Points - CATADOR W - Chile - El Delirio Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

TASTING NOTES

COLOURMedium intense ruby red with black cherry hues.

NOSEIntense black fruit aromas of cassis and blueberry, with spicy hints of cumin, black pepper, and cardamon. Notes of bell pepper, eucalyptus, and toasted oak round out the nose.

PALATE: Forward and captivating, with a medium-full mid-palate and lovely balance.

FINISH: The finish is firm, leaving the impression of rich, ripe fruit.

COMMENTS: Still quite young, it has the elements found in abundance in some of the world´s greatest wines: deep colour, tight but complex aromas, and a powerful structure. This wine displays the strengths of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, especially in its tannin structure. It is balanced and elegant from entry to finish. Oak aging accentuates the forward grape flavours of this wine.

While vinified for casual, everyday enjoyment, the wine´s concentration is impressive and will show best alongside simply grilled meats or full-flavoured dishes with spicy sauces. Highly recommended with fresh or aged goat cheese. This wine will age and meld gracefully in the bottle for al least five years. Serve at 68ºF (20ºC).

WINERY

Botalcura Winery was formed thanks to the passion of two men, Chilean businessman and wine lover, Juan Fernando Waidele and French winemaker, Philippe Debrus.

Botalcura is a small village in southern Chile, 3 hours south of Santiago and half an hour northeast of the city of Talca. The Coastal Range forms Maule Valley, from which Botalcura is set among rolling hills and surrounded by nature, it is also home to the elusive quail. A simple town formed by scarcely more than a row of houses along one side of a dirt road; inhabited by kind and extraordinary people, who inspires us and fills us with enthusiasm for sharing our dream of forming an exceptional winery along with them.

The word Botalcura means “large stone” in Mapundungun, the language of Chile’s native Mapuche people. Something hard and solid as rock speaks of the power of the gods and of what’s enduring. Both of these ideas come together in the wines of Botalcura Winery. The indomitable yet generous power of nature, the source of the intense and concentrated vines, combines with the certainty of transcending time, of making time an ally that will bear out the excellence of Botalcura Wines…
